AUTHORITIES have closed an alleged clandestine bread factory because of a “serious and imminent health risk” after finding a dead rat on site.
Almeria Local Police, working with the regional government’s provincial consumption service, found “a dead rat, remains of droppings and obsolete machinery” in the “semi-abandoned” establishment in Almeria’s El Puche neighbourhood.
Agents shut down the facilities on Tin and Iron street on Thursday due to “unsuitable hygienic conditions,” according to a police headquarters report.
And two workers were spotted making and distributing bread while surrounded by “a lot of dirt and obsolete machinery,” the report read.
Agents seized the bread stored in the warehouse, suspended all production and requested information from responsible parties on how to track down the distributed bread.
The investigation continues.
