THE investigation into the death of a man who went missing in Almeria was “especially complicated” because of the lack of details about his life, according to the Guardia Civil.

But agents have now arrested two suspects on suspicion of Jose Manuel Escudero Ballesta’s alleged murder.

The pair have been held in custody since last week after agents carried out a detailed search of the area near victim’s house.

But it is still not clear whether the Guardia Civil have managed to find the victim’s body.

Investigators hardly had any information to go on but managed to uncover all the details surrounding the victim’s disappearance and death, the Guardia Civil statement read.

The campaign to find Escudero Ballesta featured on Spanish television and on disappeared persons websites.

The 45-year-old Orihuela resident disappeared last June after relocating to Almeria from Alicante, his home province, 5 years ago.

His two children, aged 24 and 22, live in Alicante with their mother.

The last known contact with the victim was in May 2017, when he reportedly spoke on the telephone with his mother, who later reported his disappearance.

Lieutenant coronel Francisco Poyato Sevillano is expected to reveal more details about operation “Ballesta” in a press release later today.

The suspects’ court case is outstanding.
