CORONERS carrying out post mortem tests on the corpse of a 46-year-old man which was found in Almeria City have said their results show he died of natural causes.
National Police officers discovered man’s body in Almeria City two weeks after he was reported missing on July 12. The remains were found in bushes in the Bayyana ravine, under a Mediterranean Highway bridge.
Police said the remains, which were in an advanced state of decay, showed no signs of the man having died a violent death.
Officers began tracing the whereabouts of the man, named only as JFSM, after his father reported him missing.
Police attempted to track his latest movements based on information given to them by the 46-year-old’s friends and family.
They found he had not collected his medication which he took as part of a voluntary addition treatment programme. Staff with the Andalucian Health service told officers they last encountered him on June 21.
Police activated a national missing person alert and got a court order to access his mobile phone history in a bid to trace his recent movements. Searches were also conducted in the Pescaderia and El Quemadero areas of Almeria City.
National Police officers discovered the body in the ravine after a witness reported seeing human remains there on July 27 following a 15 day search. Fingerprints taken from the body confirmed that it was the remains of the missing man.
The corpse was taken to the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Almeria where coroners found no signs of violence and concluded the death was likely natural. It is unclear why the man was in the ravine at the time of his death.
