This year Vera marks the 5th centenary of the earthquake which destroyed the settlement.

CLUBS and societies are welcome to visit the dig on the old Vera settlement of Bayra on Holy Spirit Hill.

The local council has invited groups of anyone interested in finding out how the excavations are progressing and what has been unearthed to take part in guided tours given by the archaeologists studying the site.

The ‘Open for Works’ tours give the public the opportunity to see first-hand the various basic processes of the works and how they are being carried out.

The tours for groups of a maximum of 15 people can be pre-arranged by calling 950 393 142. They are being held from 10 to 11.30am and from 12-1.30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays, apart from public holidays.
