A girl who was locked away for almost her entire life in Germany has finally been freed.
Eight-year-old, Maria was allegedly restricted from public life and her family had kept her locked in the house for over seven years, according to a report published in Euro News on Thursday, November 10.
The girl was later found in the house of her grandparents who are residents of Attendorn located in the western part of Germany. According to the report, Maria had also been restricted from accessing any form of education including going to kindergarten or school. The report also suggests that her mother had attempted to hide the eight-year-old from her father by claiming that she had moved to Italy with her in 2015.
Maria has now been safely moved to foster care and is said to be in a good condition, according to the report. Investigations are now under way, as authorities are accusing the Maria´s mother and grandparents of false imprisonment.
Meanwhile, according to reports, the girl is unable to climb stairs now, but no signs of physical mistreatment or malnutrition were found after medical examination.
