Breaking News - Letter bomb injures one at Ukrainian embassy in Madrid

A staff member at the Ukrainian embassy in Madrid has been injured by an explosion caused by a letter bomb, according to reports emerging from the Spanish capital. 

News site 20Minutos report that the a letter exploded at around 13.00 CET, with police notified at 13.17. Although exact details are still yet to come out, reports suggest that the explosion occurred when an embassy worker was handling an envelope. The worker received only minor injuries and was able to attend a nearby hospital on foot. 

The letter was reportedly addressed to the Ukrainian ambassador, according to police sources, and did not pass through security scanners before being opened by a security guard in the garden of the embassy. 

Spanish police are now investigating the case and have set up a security cordon in the area, as well as sending trained dogs and bomb disposal experts.
