A man has died in hospital after being found shot in a car in the Gothenburg district of Gårdsten.

 

An injured and unconscious man was found in a car on Timjansgatan in Gårdsten in Gothenburg this morning, Tuesday, November 8. At 11am, the police announced that the person had been taken to hospital but had died of his injuries. His next of kin have been notified.

According to police spokesperson Anna Göransson: “A caller raised the alarm after seeing an injured man sitting in a car in a parking lot. He turned out to be unconscious and was suspected of having been shot”.

The police received a call at 8:36am on Tuesday morning with an individual informing them that they had found the injured man in a car in a parking lot. According to the police, several people in the area testified to hearing the sound of loud bangs that are suspected to have been gunfire.

An ambulance transferred the man to a hospital. A preliminary investigation into attempted murder was subsequently during the morning. A major police operation is underway in the area in question in Gårdsten with several units and dog patrols.

“We have cordoned off the site and are working to knock on doors and collect information”, added sAnna Göransson. What started out as a preliminary investigation has now been upgraded to one of murder. No suspects have been arrested yet.

A reporter from SVT who was on site in the residential area said that the area had been cordoned off and several police cars were in attendance at the location.
