A poll has revealed that 88% of Europeans have used a dietary supplement at some point in their lifetime, with 93% of those who had done so in the last 12 months.

The poll, run by IPSOS, was commissioned by the European organisation Food Supplements Europe and involved 13,200 adults in Belgium, the Czech Republic, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.

The survey asked people for their habits and opinions when it comes to the use of dietary supplements such as vitamin pills. 82% responded to say they always or most of the time check the label when using supplements, to confirm the recommended dose and frequency of use. For the most part (69%), Europeans believe that the information on labels is understandable, and 72% said they had confidence in the safety and quality of the supplements.

Martina Simova, the President of Food Supplements Europe, said the survey dispelled the idea that dietary supplements have been used improperly, either intentionally or inadvertently, by demonstrating that “consumers are predominantly responsible and careful in their consumption.”

As reported by Italian broadcaster RaiNews.
