Greek authorities claimed nothing suspicious was found onboard

Authorities at the Athens International airport ordered the return of an Emirates flight, which was on its way to New York City, according to a report from the Associated Press on Friday, November 11. A second aircraft was then grounded over security concerns on Thursday.

According to a statement by Greek Public ERT television, the flight was recalled after the U.S. authorities has made the request to do so. The report also stated that Emirates Flight 209 to Newark Airport returned to Athens two hours after taking off. The plane was then escorted back to Greek air by two Greek air force F-16s.

The second flight which was grounded before departure was scheduled for Dubai. This, according to the report, was done after the police received information about a potentially suspicious passenger, the report stated.

The Greek Police later in a statement said that nothing of suspicion was found on board any of the planes or passengers.
