Slovenians are going to the polls to decide the country’s next President, in a close race between the conservative Anze Logar and the progressive Natasa Pirc Musar.

According to the polls, Musar is the favourite with around 51%, with Logar on 44%. However, the result is still hard to predict given the importance of turnout and the considerable number of undecideds.

If Musar does go on to win, she would be the first female president of Slovenia. Prior to entering politics she was a lawyer who worked on human rights, and was part of the legal team that defended the former first lady of the USA, Melania Trump, in a libel suit against a tabloid magazine.

Meanwhile, her opponent, Anze Logar, is best known for having been the former foreign minister in the government led Janez Jansa.

In the first round, Logar won almost 34% of the votes, whilst Musar achieved just under 27%.

Around 1.7 million voters will be eligible to cast their ballots in over 3,000 polling stations throughout the country.
