A new controversy relating to the management of the Qatar World Cup has made the headlines, as hundreds of fans missed the start of England vs Iran due to an issue with Fifa’s ticketing app.

The match is just the second of the tournament, yet the list of problems continues to grow with fans stuck outside the stadium as the game was getting ready to kick off.

BBC reporters on the ground explained that large queues had formed at the ticketing centres around the stadium as fans attempted to gain access, with people complaining that they had arrived at the stadium two hours before kick off and still were yet to be able to enter.

The game itself also began with a number of political gestures, with Iranian players refusing to sing their national anthem in response to the government’s crackdown on protests in the country. This was accompanied by jeers from the Iranian fans for their national song. Meanwhile, England took the knee in solidarity against racism prior to kick-off.
