Austrian news site ÖRF has reported that police seized Nazi-related material during house searches related to the Freedom Party finance scandal.

The October searches related to the financial affair regarding the opaque cash flows that supported the Freedom Party’s (FPÖ) branch in the city of Graz. On 15 October, police carried out searches at 12 different addresses, targeting the former FPÖ Deputy Mayor Mario Estucchio, ex-branch chairman Armin Sippel, former finance officer Matthias Eder and three other people.

Markus Kitz, spokesperson for the investigating prosecutor’s office, told the Kleine Zeitung newspaper that “after examining the secured data carriers, we found material in connection with the prohibition law”. This law relates to preventions on the possession of pro-Nazi material.

Reports suggest that it is so far unclear whether the material that was discovered can be specifically attributed to any former FPÖ politicians or people related to the party.
