A series of anonymous bomb threats in Croatia have led to the evacuation of several police stations, shopping malls and courts, as well as forcing the country’s supreme court to suspend proceedings during a meeting with a delegation from Ukraine.

At 9.30am, Croatia media outlet Index.hr began to report on a statement from the police explaining that they had “received reports about possible explosive devices in several courts in Zagreb”.

This statement was followed by a series of further reports through the morning of evacuations in other cities, including in Split, where several hundred employees were evacuated from the Municipal and County Court. Information given to the media by a spokesman said that the judge Dinko Mesin had received an email at 9.24am saying “Buildings will collapse. Do not ignore this. A bomb has been planted”.

The Chief of the Supreme Court, Radovan Dobornic, told HRT that there is likely to be a connection with the bomb threats made at Ukrainian embassies in recent days.

As well as threats to courts, two shopping centres in Split were evacuated.

Police have now investigated the majority of the threats and confirmed that they have not found any bombs.
