NU.nl – A 50-year-old Dutch former civil servant has confessed to an Amsterdam court that she had forged a total of 19 passports on behalf of serious criminals. The case has demonstrated how easily this can be done despite the fact that strict rules exist to prevent this type of crime.

Bianca van D. worked in The Hague from 2009 to 2014, in a role which allowed her to issue passports. Using her position, she issued false passports at a price of 1,000 euros each to criminals such as Ridoaun Taghi and Naoufal F.

Fake passports are highly valuable to criminals, allowing them to travel and open bank accounts. Whilst the passports that were issued were themselves legal, the names did not match the passport photo.

The former civil servant acknowledged in court that she knew what she was doing was wrong at the time, but argued that she had not realised that the people in the photos were serious criminals. She explained that she eventually stopped as she could not handle the pressure any longer and her conscience had started to eat away at her, but says that she originally got involved because she needed the money to help pay off debts.
