HS.fi – The political magazine Politico has compiled a list of the 28 most influential people in Europe in 2022, with Finnish PM Sanna Marin being one of the leading figures.

The list considered political actors from across the continent, dividing them into three categories: “doers”, “dreamers” and “disturbers”.

In the “dreamers” category, Marin finished in first place, a position in previous years given to EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and climate activist Greta Thunberg. Politico defined a “dreamer” as being someone who “represents the ideas that guide European power and politics”.

The decision to put Marin top of the list this year was based on a number of factors, including how Finland had turned its back on its previous foreign policy position towards Russia and had now applied for membership of the military alliance NATO. The magazine described Marin as “an exception among political leaders”, with the 37-year-old being a rarity in the world of politics, where mainly “male dinosaurs” still operate.

On the overall list Marin is the only one who is under 40 years old. Overall, the list includes 18 men and 10 women.
