Several civilians killed after missiles hit buildings and homes in Ukraine hours after drone strikes on Russian air bases

Another barrage of Russian missiles has struck Ukraine on Monday, November 5, after Russian authorities reported drone strikes on two of their bases. According to a report by the Associated Press, homes and building have been destroyed and several civilians have been killed in the recent attacks. The report also said, basic services in several Ukranian regions have been hit as severe winter approaches.  

Ukrainian authorities claimed to have shot down more than 60 of the 70 missiles fired on its territory. A statement issued by them in the article said, “Early indications showed Russia fired 38 cruise missiles from carriers in the Caspian Sea and from the southern Rostov region. In addition, 22 Kalibr cruise missiles were fired from Russia’s Black Sea fleet, and long-range bombers, fighter jets and guided missiles were also involved.  

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in a nightly address on Monday said, “Every downed Russian missile is concrete proof that terror can be defeated”. He also said four people were killed on Monday´s missile strikes.  

Sergei Shoigu, the Russian defence minister, while discussing the attacks on Russian air bases stated that the authorities shot down two Ukranian drones. He also added, three Russian service men were killed and four other injured in the attack. According to the report, one of the strikes by Ukraine in Russia hit airfield housing bomber capable of carrying nuclear weapons.
