Former London police officer jailed after he was charged with offenses including 24 counts of rape

A 48-year-old man who worked as a former police officer in London has been jailed for at least 30 years over charges that include “catalogue of violence and brutal sexual offending.”

According to Reuters, prosecutors on the case said that David Carrick worked in the Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command and used his “position of power to intimidate many of his victims, saying no one would believe their word against that of a serving officer”.

As per the court, the offenses charged against Carrick include 24 counts of rape, which were committed during the time he served in the London Metropolitan Police.

Carrick had previously pleaded guilty to a total of 49 charges between 2003 and 2020, related to sexual offenses committed against 12 victims.

The hearing for his case took place on Tuesday, February 7 at London’s Southwark Crown Court, as Judge Bobbie Cheema-Grubb sentenced him to life, with a minimum jail time of 32 years.

His sentence will be reduced based on the number of years he has already served.

As per UK law, the people who are sentenced to life imprisonment need to serve a minimum term and will only be released if the court agrees that they are no longer a risk to the public.
