Gemma Collins quits I’m a Celebrity…

Gemma Collins has sensationally quit the current series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here – just three days after entering the Australian jungle.

The 33-year-old boutique owner walked away on Wednesday morning after beating Ferne McCann and Jessica Wright to become the first female TOWIE star to win a place on the ITV show.

A spokesperson confirmed: ‘We’re sorry to see Gemma go but respect her decision and wish her well.’

Gemma, who entered the jungle over the weekend, had previously expressed her desire to lose weight and find love on the show.Speaking to Closer before the official launch she said: ‘I was meant to lose weight before I went in the jungle, but I couldn’t stop eating, so losing weight once I am in there will be great!’

The TOWIE star was hoping to emulate the success of former cast-mates Mark Wright and Joey Essex, but her jungle experience got off to a bad start when she broke down ahead of a helicopter ride into camp.

Shortly after she found herself banished to the ‘Celebrity Slammer’ with Coronation Street star Craig Charles, ‘Allo ‘Allo actress Vicki Michele and Irish model Nadia Forde.Surviving on a basic ration of rice and beans, an emotional Gemma complained of feeling unwell on Monday evening – hours before making the decision to leave.

Speaking to Vicki, she admitted:  ‘I’m f**king p****d off. I want to go. I’m not going to be able to do it.’

Gemma joins a lengthy list of celebrities to quit the grueling show – but hers is not the fastest departure in its fourteen year history. That honour goes to Malcolm McLaren, who refused to enter the jungle after flying to Australia to take part in 2007.

Comedian Freddie Starr lasted 24-hours before leaving for health reasons, while EastEnders star Daniella Westbrook survived nine days in the purpose built camp.

Others to quit include former Strictly star Camilla Dallerup, who lasted four days, East 17 singer Brian Harvey, who managed six, and All Saints star Natalie Appleton, whose time in camp ended after nine days.

Edwina Currie and X Factor contestant Jake Quckenden are now poised to enter the camp, with former footballer Jimmy Bullard a 15/8 favourite to win.
