VERA LIONS – Thanks for Helping the Food Banks

Over the last few months Jan and Phil from Price Busters in Albox have been actively helping local food banks. They have been donating food which is nearing “out of date” and have a collection box where customers can donate foodstuff which is then passed on to local food banks.

This help has been received gratefully by the food banks who are helping the growing number of hungry people in the area and as a “Thank you” Sandie Tinkham, President of Vera and District Lions Club has presented them with a Certificate of Appreciation. The photo shows Sandie presenting the Certificate of Appreciation to Jan.

The Lions also have collection points at Iceland in Vera and at the English Supermarket In Turre where people can leave food (dried or canned goods e.g. rice, pasta, lentils, beans etc). The Lions actively help the food banks by collecting fresh vegetables from local packaging firms.

The vegetables donated are those which are not “good enough” for the supermarkets and which would normally get dumped.

If you would info on the Lions please contact the secretary, Pam Mattioli, on 950 069 249 or 610 309 032 or come along to a meeting. The Lions meet at El Gnomo Feliz on the first Wednesday of the month at 6pm.
