Forest road work underway in Almeria

EXTENSIVE WORK to improve mountain road access has been undertaken in Almeria.

The programme, promoted by the Regional Government of Andalusia, has already completed 14 forest roads across the community, totalling about 400 kilometres of repair work.

The total budget amounts to 1,553,247 euros for Almería of which 211,257 euros have been earmarked for forest roads.

Almeria government representatives hope the improvements will allow for faster access to tackle forest fires, safer routes for travellers and greater access to recreational areas for more isolated communities.

Work carried out so far includes the removal of stones, trees and snow, improving concrete lining of roads and introducing better signalling posts.

There are 746 forest roads in Almería, which represents 12 per cent of the total public mountain road network in Andalusia.
