BOXERS Golf Society, the very first in the Albox area, has donated its remaining funds to charity Walk for Life Arbeoleas after they unfortunately closed.

The society was founded by golfers Les Ashton and Allan Hay in 2004 and had over 50 members soon after.

When founding member Allan died suddenly in 2011, his partner, Trudy Sailes, also a golfer, presented the Allan Hay Trophy to Boxers, which was to be played for every year on Captain’s Day.

The current and final holder of the Allan Hay trophy is Tony Horrobin.

Unfortunately, after 13 years, falling membership and difficulty recruiting has caused the society to close.

The society decided to donate all its remaining funds to the charity that Trudy is heavily involved in, Walk for Life Arboleas.

Walk for Life Vice President Jean Bircher and Trudy were presented with €520 by Boxers’ Captain George Miller and President Tony Hammond.

Walk for Life Arboleas is a registered charity that supports cancer sufferers and their families.  To find out more go to walk4lifearboleas.com.
