ZURGENA COUNCIL have approved changes in development laws that they claim will allow the region to prosper.

The General Urban Ordinance Plan (PGOU) will allow landowners in Zurgena, Chicago, La Alfoquia, El Cucador and Palaces to carry out demolitions, refurbishments or building works deemed necessary on their land.

Los Carasoles, Los Menchones and Los Llanos de Peral are still waiting for the legislation to get the green light. Previously only the Zurgena town centre and some neighbourhoods were allowed to do so.

Mayor Luis Diaz has congratulated “every one who took worked on the General Plan” and said the PGOU will allow land to be used to build civil protection housing, as well as green areas, and two industrial estates in the region.

Diaz said “the PGOU gives us the tools to help change the lives of many Zurgena residents.”
