FOUR people remain in hospital after an accident between a car and a bus full of workers in Cuevas del Almonzora left 26 injured.
The four men – aged between 23 and 41- are in La Inmaculada hospital in the Almeria town of Huércal-Overa, according to healthcare sources.
The accident happened on kilometre eight of the A-332 highway last Friday.
The 30-year-old driver of a car was allegedly overtaking another vehicle when it collided head-on with the bus, according to initial investigations.
After the collision at around 5.40pm, the bus tumbled from a height of “three or four metres” and veered off the road, according to emergency services sources.
Civil Protection volunteers, Guardia Civil traffic officers, Local Police and Levante firefighters went to the scene and released a person trapped in a car.
The bus driver suffered an injury to his pelvis and several of the passengers – who were coming back from a day of work in the countryside – fractured bones in their legs, feet and faces.
Of the 26 injured in the crash, ten were given first-aid at the scene and the other 16 were taken to hospitals in Huércal-Overa.
The Guardia Civil is still investigating the exact cause of the crash.
