LOCAL POLICE in Almeria City said they have found three men they believed were behind the smashing of a fountain in the city.

Officers claimed a 21-year-old and 23-year-old from Alicante as well as a 24-year-old originally from Almeria were responsible for the vandalism to the Plaza San Pedro monument.

Manuel Guzman, Almeria City Council’s security spokesperson, said the police work was a “good result” for locals.

“They will receive sanctions corresponding to their uncivil attitude,” he said.

The 21-year-old had to be taken to Torrecardenas Hospital due to leg wounds which officers claimed were caused by the suspect trying to climb on top of the fountain.

The tracking down of the suspects comes days after Ramon Fernandez-Pacheco, the Mayor of Almeria City, took to social media to criticise the vandalism.

“If I wrote what I thought of those who have done this Facebook would close my account,” he said on the site.

Workers have since begun repairing the fountain at an estimated cost of €4,000.
