Iranian man found dead in French river

French authorities open investigations after the 38-year-old man posted video online saying he would kill himself to highlight Iran’s crackdown on protests   

An investigation has been started by the French authorities after an Iranian man drowned in the southeastern city of Lyon. after posting a video on social media. According to a report in the Guardian on Tuesday, December 27, 38-year-old Mohammad Moradi died after he posted a video on social media and said, he was going to draw attention to the crackdown of protesters in Iran by killing himself. 

Emergency services were rushed to the river Rhône in the center of Lyon, where his body was discovered on Monday, as per Police reports. They also said that emergency services attempted to resuscitate Moradi, but were unable to save his life.  

Meanwhile, prosecutors in Lyon have said that they launched a probe into the case, to verify if Moradi committed suicide. A statement in the report by the prosecutors said, they have decided to take this step because of the stetement made by him in the video “announcing his intention to take his life”.  

The report said that Moradi, in the video posted on social media said that he was going to drown himself to highlight the crackdown on protesters that have been taking place in Iran since the custodial death of 22-year-ol Mahsa Amini. She had been arrested for violating Iran´s strict dress code for women.
