Eight people were taken to the hospital after a large crowd attempted to gain entry without tickets at a concert by Nigerian singer Asake, outside the O2 Brixton Academy
Police in London announced that a woman has died in the hospital, after she was crushed at a concert venue in London. According to a report by the Associated Press on Saturday, December 17, Rebecca Ikumelo, a 33-year-old had to be hospitalized, after she got crushed, as hundreds of people without tickets entered the O2 Brixton Academy.
The incident took place during a performance by a Nigerian singer Asake on Thursday night. Along with Ikumelo, seven others were also rushed to the hospital. A statement by the London Metropolitan Police said, two other women, aged 21 and 23, are also critical.
Police said, “Emergency services were called after a large crowd attempted to gain entry without tickets, and they found people suffering from crush injuries”. The event was immediately stopped by the promoters after a huge crowd of people breached the doors, the report said.
London´s Mayor Sadiq Khan also issued a statement that said, “Rebecca had her whole life ahead of her and on behalf of all Londoners, I would like to extend my condolences to her family, friends and loved ones at this extremely difficult time”. He added, “My thoughts remain with everyone affected by this dreadful incident. It’s vital that the investigation into what happened concludes as soon as possible.”
Meanwhile, the police are also urging people who were present at the venue, during the incident, to submit photos and videos to help with the investigations.
