Over 13000 Ukranian soldiers killed since Russian invasion: Ukraine official

President Volodymyr Zelensky´s aide issued the statement during a local TV interview in Ukraine, adding the number of civilians killed during the war since February could be significant as well 

In a rare event, a senior official from the Ukraine government announced that since the beginning of the war, between 10,000 and 13,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed. Mykhailo Podolyak, an adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, made this statement during an interview at a local news TV channel, according to a report by the BBC on Friday, December 2.  

Podolyak said, “We have official evaluations by the General Staff, official evaluations by the commander-in-chief, and they range from 10,000 to 12,500-13,000 killed. He added, the number of civilians killed could be significant.  

Speaking about Russian casualties, Zelensky´s aide said that over 100,000 Russian soldiers had been killed since the beginning of the war. Podolyak also said the number of wounded further includes from 100,000 to 150,000 soldiers, some of whom were missing or unable to return to combat, the report stated.  

The report also said, according to a statement last month by Mark Milley, United States Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, over 100,000 Russians and 100,000 Ukrainian soldiers had been killed or injured since February 24. Another statement by Ursula Von der Leyen, President European Union regarding Ukrainian casualties on Wednesday said that over 100,000 Ukrainian troops had been killed. The statement was later clarified by an EU spokesperson who said, the figures provided by the EU President included both injured and killed.
