US officials say about 1019 flights travelling in and out of the US were cancelled after a severe winter storm

A severe winter storm in the US resulted in hundreds of flights getting cancelled.

According to a report by Reuters on Monday, January 30, a total of 1019 had been cancelled until 6 pm ET and almost half of them were from Southwest Airlines Co.

Southwest is a low-cost airline and has faced several backlashes from the U.S. government earlier this month after the carrier cancelled 16,700 flights during the holiday season.

As per official reports, the reason for the cancellation was due to bad weather and outdated technology.

The new set of cancellations comes at a time when the aviation sector in the U.S. faced a major system failure, resulting in the Federal Aviation Administration grounding flights across the country.
