A man has been arrested by police in Belgium after he attacked and injured three people at a metro station in Brussels

Authorities in Belgium have said that three people have been injured, after a man attacked then with a knife on Monday, January 30.  

According to Reuters, the incident took place in a metro station in Brussels and has resulted in one person reported as critically injured.  

After the attack the prosecutor´s office in the Belgian capital issued a statement that said, “While the motives of the attacker, a 30-year-old man, remain unclear, police have ruled out a terrorist attack”.  

The attack took place at 5.45 pm local time after the metro arrived at the Schuman station, during rush hour, as per the police.  

The man was later arrested after local officials intervened.  

A statement by Brussels mayor Philippe Close said, “Cooperation with the various federal police services and (the local police) ensured that the perpetrator could be arrested quickly”.  

Officials also said that three injured people are being treated in the hospital.
