Prime Mininster Rishi Sunak says UK will send Challenger tanks to Ukraine to help bolster the war effort

The government in the UK has announced that they will be sending two Challenger tanks to provide Ukraine with better protection, and more accurate firepower against the war with Russia. 

According to a report by the BBC on Monday, January 16, Sunak said that after having a conversation with his Ukranian counterpart Volodomyr Zelensky, he confirmed that the UK government will be sending equipment and additional artillery systems. 

He further added, the challenger tanks will help “bolster Ukraine’s war effort” against Russia.  

The report also said that about 30 AS90s self-propelled guns are also expeted to be delivered.  

The government has also said that 14 tanks will be issued to Ukraine.  

As per UK officials, president Zelensky also thanked the UK for the tanks and said they “will not only strengthen us on the battlefield, but also send the right signal to other partners”. 

Sunak also said that the British build Challenger, used as the army’s main battle tank, will help Ukrainian forces to push back the Russian troops  

Build over 20 years ago, the Challenger tank will be the most modern tank available for Ukraine. This tank will also provide better protection as well as increase accuracy.
