Local police in Almeria to be given segways to patrol the beach ‘as part of council budget’

TRAVELLING IN STYLE: Police will be patrolling the beach on Segways later this year

LOCAL Police in Almeria will be given segway scooters to patrol Almerian beaches as part of this year’s budget.

Police officers patrolling areas such as the Paseo Maritimo and streets close to Almerian beaches will be given the electric scooters to help them while on duty.

As well as providing officers with the segways, several projects have also been planned as part of the 2018 Promotion of the City and Commerce budget.

These include the refurbishment works of the San Miguel Tower in the Cabo de Gata, the completion of renovation works at the Town Hall and Old Square, the remodelling of the Arts of Arcos and Nueva Andalucia and the old Civil Protection building in Los Molinos alongside other investments.

Similarly, €700,000 will go towards the first phase of the improvement of the Municipal sports building which will see three artificial football pitches resurfaces and the building of the gymnastics pavilion.

The municipal facilities project is expected to cost a total of €2.5 million and finish completion in 2019.
