President of Ukraine during his visit to the EU summit says several leaders promised to provide the country with aircraft

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has announced that several European Union leaders have expressed interest in providing aircraft to the country, to fight the war against Russia.

According to a report in Reuters on Thursday, February 10, Zelensky made this statement during an EU summit but provided no further details.

Although no European country has issued a confirmation on the deal yet, if it does though, this move will be the “biggest shift yet in Western support for Ukraine”.

Addressing a news conference, Zelensky said, “Europe will be with us until our victory. I’ve heard it from a number of European leaders…about the readiness to give us the necessary weapons and support, including the aircraft”.

“I have a number of bilaterals now, we are going to raise the issue of the fighter jets and other aircraft,” he said.

Ukraine´s allies who have been supplying military aid to the country to fight the war have previously rejected the proposal to send fighter jets and long-range weapons to the country.

But Zelensky´s recent visit to Europe seems to be changing the opinion of several EU leaders.

He first met with UK prime minister Rishi Sunak on Wednesday, and further travelled to Paris where he met his French and German counterparts, Macron as well as Scholz.

After their meeting Zelensky has also been reported saying the some of the points discussed during the meeting were to remain a secret.

“There are certain agreements which are not public, but which are positive. I don’t want to prepare the Russian Federation, which is constantly threatening us with new aggressions,” he said.
