At least five people have been reported injured and one dead, after a four-storey building collapsed in lower Manhattan, New York
Authorities in the US said that one person has died and five others injured after a building in New York City´s lower Manhattan area collapsed on Tuesday, April 19.
According to Reuters, one of the victims killed has been identified as a worker, as all of them were inside the structure before it collapsed.
Police in New York stated that “they had no reason to believe the incident was anything other than a structural collapse”.
The incident happened after the second floor of a garage structure collapsed on the lower floor.
“Firefighters responding to the collapse were pulled back from the immediate scene out of concerns about the structural stability of the building”, said a statement by New York City Fire Department.
